Roots & Shoots is an organization founded by Dr. Jane Goodall to inspire and engage youth through community service and service learning. Our group is a part of a global Roots & Shoots community that fosters respect and compassion for all living things. We invite youth of all ages and from all schools to join us in our community-based projects.

High Country Leadership:

We are three students who share common interests and passions, the most prominent of these being our desire to help our planet, and each and every one of its inhabitants.

Katie Coleman: 

    I am a student at Rowland Hall-St. Marks High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. Every year since 6th grade, when I first came to RHSM, I have tried to involve myself with service projects of all types. However, I had never involved myself with an organization that I controlled or could truly take credit for. After hearing Dr. Jane Goodall's speech in SLC in March, 2008, and hearing of Roots & Shoots, I knew that it would be something I could commit to fully, and be able to create projects on my own, with people who feel the same way I do about what we do. Thanks to Jane Goodall and her program, it is finally achievable. 

Jamie Rush:

    I am also a student at Rowland Hall-St. Marks Middle School in Salt Lake City, Utah. I live in Park City. Ever since I was little, I have always loved nature, the environment, and animals. When I was old enough to begin participating in community service, I began immediately. I became interested in Roots & Shoots when I had the incredible opportunity to meet Dr. Jane Goodall in person in Park City in March 2008. She inspired me to step up and take a leadership role in helping to find solutions to the problems facing the world and its inhabitants. 

Bryce Baker:
    
    I'm a student at Rowland Hall- St. Marks Middle School in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am fortunate enough to live in Park City. The world around me is full of wonders. I'd like to keep it that way for generations to come. I'd like my kids and their kids to discover what I have been fortunate enough live side by side with. Jane Goodall's idea to create a program to preserve the earth helped me to realize the huge step the people in the world need to take. I would like to be part of this movement towards a green life, and Roots and Shoots can really help me to do this.
